Treat Spider Veins with Our Sclerotherapy Treatment

Sclerotherapy

Those creeping, branching veins on your legs have been hanging around for far too long, but you haven’t been sure how to get rid of them. There is one way to eliminate them for good: sclerotherapy. This safe and effective treatment has been proven to destroy spider veins. It’s about time that you stopped hiding your legs in long pants and leggings. You deserve to feel confident in your own skin once again, and sclerotherapy can help you regain your sense of self while also making sure those spider veins don’t evolve into bigger health concerns.

What Causes Spider Veins?

Spider veins have a simple cause. In the vein, there is a valve that allows blood to flow in only one direction. When this valve gets damaged or weakened, it will cause blood to move backwards in the vein, where it can pool and cause the vein wall to swell. As more blood pools and the pressure on the vein wall increases, the vein will bulge, appearing just under the surface of the skin.

Who Is at Risk for Spider Veins?

Women are more at risk for spider veins than men. This partly due to the fact that the hormone estrogen plays a role in the creation of spider veins, and women who use hormonal birth control are more at risk for spider veins. You might also be at risk for spider veins if you have a family history of spider veins, are pregnant, are overweight, and if you stand for long periods of time. Unlike varicose veins, spider veins usually don’t present with any negative symptoms. Although, you may experience itching, swelling, or throbbing in your legs.

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is the most popular and common therapy for treating spider veins. It is a fairly simple procedure with little down time. For the treatments, your dermatologist or doctor will inject a chemical straight into the targeted spider vein. This chemical irritates the wall of the vein so that it collapses and closes off. Within a few weeks, the vein will eventually turn into scar tissue, thus eliminating the spider vein.

Are You a Good Candidate for Sclerotherapy?

Most everyone makes a good candidate for sclerotherapy. At your initial consultation, we will talk through the procedure and discuss your medical history. If you are pregnant, taking birth control pills, or have a history of blood clots, then you may not make a good candidate for sclerotherapy.
