Spider Veins Treatment At Venus Vein Clinic, Omaha, NE

spider veins

Spider veins are normally asymptomatic, but they can be extremely annoying to those who experience them. It seems like no amount of makeup or tanning can cover their unsightly appearance. When you are dealing with spider veins on your legs, the only thing that will remove them is professional treatment.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are a type of varicose veins that develop when one-way valves in the vein become dysfunctional. These valves are supposed to prevent blood from flowing back into the vein. When they do not work properly, blood can pool in the vein and distort its appearance.

Spider veins are smaller than normal varicose veins and tend to be red or purple in color. Rather than being ropey or twisted in shape, they tend to present with a branched or spider-web appearance. Although spider veins are almost always asymptomatic, if you are dealing with them, you have probably begun exploring your treatment options.

What Is Sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is an older varicose veins treatment that has been around since the 1930s and is still effective and in use today. We use a fine needle to inject a chemical into the spider vein, leading to its collapse. Your body will then absorb the remains of this dysfunctional vein and reroute any blood that it contained into healthy blood vessels nearby.

You will need to wear compression dressings for a couple of weeks after your sclerotherapy procedure. You may need to return within two weeks so that we can check for blood clots and make sure you are progressing as expected.

You will be encouraged to walk some immediately after your treatment and continue walking for a few minutes each day. Avoid extremely strenuous physical activity, but do make sure that you get in your walking time each day.
